Jardines del Real, known to everyone in Valencia as Viveros Park, is the city's largest historic garden: wide lawns, old trees and quiet corners just north of the Turia. On a busy weekend it fills with families, but its far side stays calm enough for a moment that should belong to two people only. This is the story of how Alin planned a picnic proposal there for Simina. If you're planning your own, start with our surprise proposal photo and video in Valencia page.

Three Months of Planning, From Abroad

Alin first called us almost three months before the day. He lived outside Spain, wanted a complete surprise for Simina, and had a clear picture in his head: a picnic in a park, flowers, sunset. What he didn't have was a team on the ground.

We planned everything with him online. We talked through the cover story, the timing and the light, and recommended a decorator and a florist we trust. Alin chose the picnic style and the flowers himself, and each of them worked directly with him, so on the day every detail was exactly what he had imagined.

Choosing the Spot in the Park

A few days before, the two of us walked the park to choose the exact place. It had to do three things at once: give a beautiful background that suited the decor Alin had picked, stay away from the main paths, and look like a perfectly normal place for a couple's photoshoot. For Simina, that's all the day was supposed to be.

Viveros is one of ten spots we compare in our guide on where to propose in Valencia, alongside quieter gardens, the El Saler dunes and hotel courtyards.

Then came a surprise of our own. On the proposal day the park hosted a family festival on a public holiday, and the main lawns were full. Because we had already chosen a corner on the far side of the park, away from the events, the setup stayed private and nobody wandered into the moment.

The Picnic, the Flowers and the Yes

While we walked with Simina and Alin through the park as if it were an ordinary session, the decorator set up the picnic at the chosen spot: woven chairs, a white blanket, candles, a boho umbrella, a charcuterie board and champagne on ice. The florist arrived with the bouquet of pink roses Alin had chosen weeks earlier, timed to the minute.

As the light turned warm before sunset, the walk led them to the picnic. Simina understood a second before Alin knelt. Then the ring, the tears, and the yes.

Photo and Video, Two Angles at Once

This was a session where working as a duo made the difference. Yuri photographed while Darina filmed, each from a different position, so Alin and Simina received both: the proposal on video from one angle and in photos from another. After the yes we stayed with them for a relaxed walk through the park, the first portraits of their engagement, still in that golden light. Their photos and film arrived within 3 to 5 days.

An amazing team! I worked with them to plan and capture my proposal, and the whole experience was incredibly smooth. Everything was so well coordinated, and they thought of every detail.

The photos and videos are beyond anything I could have hoped for. Absolutely stunning! The photo session after the proposal felt natural and relaxed. They have a real gift for making you feel comfortable, helping you enjoy the moment, and capturing it beautifully.

Thank you again for your superb work and for giving us such wonderful memories to look back on. I couldn’t recommend you more highly. Cheers!

About Darista Proposal Photographers

We are Yuri and Darina, a husband-and-wife photo and video duo based in Valencia. Most of the proposals we photograph are planned from another country, by someone who has never seen the place they're about to kneel in. Our job starts long before the day: we know which corners of the city stay quiet, which decorators and florists deliver on time, and how to keep a secret until the very last second. On the day, one of us photographs and the other films, so nothing is missed.

FAQ: Planning a Picnic Proposal in Viveros Park

Can you set up a picnic proposal in Viveros Park?

Yes. We recommend a trusted decorator who prepares the picnic, with chairs, candles, a charcuterie board and champagne, at the spot we choose together, and clears everything away afterwards. Decor starts from 150 €, and flowers are ordered separately from a local florist.

Can we plan everything from abroad?

Yes, almost all our proposal clients do. We plan online through calls and messages, and connect you directly with the decorator and florist. Alin started three months ahead; one month is usually enough.

What if the park is busy on our date?

Viveros hosts events on some weekends and holidays. We check the date in advance and choose a quiet corner away from the main lawns, as we did for Alin and Simina on a festival day.

How soon will we get our photos and video?

Your edited photos, and your film if you booked video, arrive within 3 to 5 days after the proposal.
