Altea is a small white town on a hill above the sea, and on a wedding day it gives you something rare: a whole photo location within a short walk. Steep stone lanes, white walls, the church with its blue domes at the very top, and the Mediterranean showing up at the end of almost every street. We are Yuri and Darina, a husband-and-wife duo working as wedding photographers in Altea, and we've shot here often enough to know what works in this town and what doesn't.
This page is about the wedding itself. If you haven't asked the question yet, Altea is a lovely place for that too, so take a look at our secret proposal in Altea. Already engaged and thinking about a love story shoot first? Here is our engagement session in Altea.
An Altea Elopement: Getting Ready, Portraits, Dinner
The day we see most often here is simple, and it's honestly one of our favorite formats. You get ready in a hotel in Altea, on your own or with a few close people. We photograph the dress, the details, the moment you see each other for the first time. Then we walk up into the Old Town for your wedding photoshoot in Altea, about an hour in the white streets.
In the evening you meet your guests for dinner at a restaurant or a finca outside town. We stay for the toasts, the speeches that go longer than planned, and whatever happens once the plates are cleared. Nobody spends the day in a car, nobody rushes. For a lot of couples, this is exactly what an elopement should feel like.
Celebrating With Your Guests Near Altea
If you want a bigger celebration, the hills around Altea are full of fincas and villas that host weddings. Some are old country estates with olive trees, others are modern houses with a pool and a view over the bay. We keep a guide to wedding venues near Valencia with the places we've photographed and what each one is really like on the day.
A plan that works well: the ceremony and dinner happen at the venue with your guests, and earlier in the afternoon the two of you come into Altea for your photos. You get the white town in your gallery without giving up the party.
When to Shoot in Altea (and Why Not at Sunset)
This one surprises people. Everyone asks for sunset, but in Altea it's usually not the best time. The town is almost completely white, and white walls need direct sun to look white. Once the sun drops behind the mountains inland, the streets fall into shade quickly. The walls lose their brightness and come out flat and grey in the photos. You'd be standing in Altea, but the pictures wouldn't look like it.
So we plan every wedding photoshoot in the Old Town to finish about two hours before sunset. The light is still warm, the walls still glow, and the domes stand out against the sky. After that we move on, to the coast, to the venue or straight to dinner. If a sunset frame matters to you, we take it by the sea, where the open horizon holds the light much longer than the streets do.

BOOK YOUR WEDDING IN ALTEA
We love Altea for a small wedding or an elopement, and we're just as happy to photograph your day at a finca near Valencia or in the city itself if a different setting feels more like you. See our wedding photography in Valencia for the other places we work.
Practical Things We Tell Every Couple
- Parking. The Old Town is steep and mostly closed to cars, so everyone parks below. You can find parking at the foot of the hill without much trouble, just avoid arriving right at lunchtime in high summer. We usually meet there and walk up together.
- Shoes. The streets are stone, uneven in places, and some are basically stairs. Bring flat shoes for the walk and change into your heels once we're at the spot. Your photos won't show the flats, we promise.
- Heat. From June to early September the middle of the day is hard work in a suit or a long dress. That's one more reason we like the afternoon slot, when the worst of the heat is behind us.
- Drone. Around Altea we can fly the drone, and it's worth it here. From above, the town looks like a white patch on the hill with the bay spread out beside it, a shot you simply can't get from the ground. If the drone is part of your package, this is where it earns its place.
Altea and Cala del Moraig in One Day
If you'd like more than one landscape in your wedding photos, Altea pairs well with other spots on the Costa Blanca. Our favorite combination is Cala del Moraig, a rocky cove about 40 minutes up the coast, with cliffs, pine trees and very clear water. We start there with the rocks and the green, then drive to Altea for the white streets. Nature in the first half of the gallery, the village in the second, and both look like you, not like a postcard.

About Darista Wedding Photographers in Altea
Most couples looking for a wedding photographer in Altea expect one person. We always come as two. Yuri follows the day as it happens: guests, hugs, the small moments nobody poses for. Darina works with the two of you on portraits and gently tells you where to stand when the light is right. That's how we can be in the hotel room and on the terrace at the same time, and why nothing important slips past.
Every package includes at least one roll of film, and white streets are made for it. The grain, the soft contrast, the slightly warm whites: film suits Altea better than almost anywhere we shoot.

FAQ: Planning Your Wedding in Altea
Can we elope in Altea without booking a venue?
Yes. You can get ready in a hotel, have your portraits in the Old Town and then have dinner with your guests at a restaurant. No finca needed, and it's one of the easiest ways to have a small wedding here.

How much time do we need for portraits in the Old Town?
Plan for about an hour and a half, including the walk up from the parking. That's enough time for several different streets and a view over the sea without rushing.

Can you photograph our wedding at a venue outside Altea?

Of course. We work at fincas and villas across the area, including Calpe, Moraira and Benidorm, and we're happy to combine the venue with a portrait session in Altea.

Do you charge extra to travel to Altea?
No. We're based in Valencia, and as your wedding photographer in Altea we don't add travel fees. The same goes for weddings anywhere in Spain.
